D800 Meike Batt Grip Issues

I decided not to get the Nikon battery grip based on the price. I went with the Meike grip which I have used successfully on my D300s. Nikon or Meike is not the intent of the thread. My issue is that it does not switch over to the fully charged battery when the main battery is too low to work. It only switches when the main battery is completely dead. Anyone else use the Meike and experience this? I have read the manual with no avail.
