Hi, y'all,
After my fathers passing, I have become the custodian of two large boxes of family photos! they go back to 1901. I want to put them on my computer and categorize them so I can send them to family members. What software is out there for this? I have an Epson V550 scanner and a decent computer, but I need help identifying a handling program. I don't plan on modifying the images (although that may be something I want to do later), but it would be nice to put text on the image, such as names, dates, places, or transcribing endorsements from the back.

Another method I thought about would be to create a mat to lay the old picture on and add the text on the mat. That way when I send it whole image to a family member they can decide to print the entire thing or crop off my text, leaving the original image.
