Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I thought I would start this thread (because I couldn't find one like it) to help people that might know some of the terminology like "LOL: laugh out loud" or "DOF: depth of field". As I was reading through some of the threads, I had a hard time with some of the abbreivations. So if you have any please put them here so that we could make a list for those new to forums and/or photography would have a place to start the definitions.

L o L: laugh out loud
DOF: depth of field
IOM: ?
KFC: Kentucky Fried Chicken
Opps how did that one get in here
Negative Density Filter: what does that do?

There used to a photography glossary around here somewhere...it used to be a sticky...but it has been buried now.

Neutral density filter. It is a gray filter that simply cuts down the amount of light reaching the lens. They are calibrated in X's - 2X is a one stop reduction in light, 4X is a 2 stop etc.

Mike, you don't mean for us all to learn your whole list by heart now, do you!?!?

I so try to write whole sentences, even in chats and more so here on the forum in my posts, I just do not want to learn all the abbreviations, and even when I use some of our TPF (= The Photo Forum) abbreviations, I often enough explain them while I use them.

But that list
TIWTMFM!
(= that is way too much for me).

AIIS
(= and it is silly)

SOIIGBMIC
(=some of it is good but most is cr**)

Anyhow, used quite frequently on here are DOF, POV, IMO, OTE, IR and HDR.
Standing for: depth of field, point of view, in my opinion, ok to edit, infrared and high dynamic range (I hope I got this right THIS time  ).

You sound like a science fiction (I'm thinking Robert J. Sawyer) fan...

Haha, thanks. I actually don't read science fiction - those are all real-world physics facilities either under construction (ITER, LHC) or currently running experiments (LDX).

I guess one could add NIF (National Ignition Facility) to that list.
