Did I make a "Beastly" mistake?

I bought a 28-70mm Nikor today, aka the Beast, and ordered a B+W UV filter for protection. Adorama called to see if I would be interested, for $5 more, in a Tiffen UV and polarizer set. The difference mainly being the Tiffen was slim for wide angle lenses. I don't consider 24mm wide, but will I have a problem with the regular B+W filter?

Can that lens be used on 35mm film cameras? If so, the edges will be cropped on the D50, so even if the filter does encroach into the len's field of view...you probably won't see it in any of the images.

Agreed, there's unlikely to be any need for a slim filter... in fact, a slim filter has the disadvantage that you can't stack another filter on top of it and probably can't fit a lens cap over it either... I discovered this as someone bought me a 77mm slim UV filter, which I never use as I don't like being unable to attach the lens cap.
