    Hi all.

Anyone know why Rawshooter Essentials is compatible with 20D CR2 Raw files, but not 30D CR2 Raw files. Are there even differences between models?

    Cheers

I would assume so; it's certainly the case with Nikon. Annoys the **** out me too. You'd think they'd stick to one standard.

Strange, I thought they were the same. Are you using Vista by any chance, you didn't list anything?

    Try This link.

Raw files are proprietary to the camera manufacturer. New model, changes to the raw format. Rawshooter Essentials is old software that is not longer supported. Adobe bought Pixmantec. Adobe offers an upgrade to lightroom for a fee. Big surprise huh.

That is one of the problems with raw. Unless you are willing to spend big bucks for top line software that supports long term updates you end up having to upgrade your programs at a cost. Adobe is especially bad about this. You might check here for something you like that will handle the 20D and 30D files.

actually, the 30D (and a few others) is the last format RSE 2006 supported. You may be able to find a copy on the web somewhere. It's version 1.2.1 build 72.

I stopped using RSE a couple years ago. I like DPP much better.

edit- it looks like I still have the last update archived. PM and I'll email it to ya.

So it seems different models do indeed have changes to the RAW file. The version of RSE I had installed opened the 30D file, but it was corupted. The image appeared to be broken into four seperate images for each of the RGB values. I'm using Win 2K & XP, both of which should not cause a problem.

Anyway, not sure of the precise 2006 version I had installed, but I'll look for the 1.2.1 build 72 version and try that. Tried Raw Therapee from gryphonslair99's link some time ago but it was verrrrrry slowwwww. DPP is OK, but I'm not 100% thrilled with it, and Lightroom is beyond what I want to spend at the moment.

Thanks for posting, it's much appreciated.

EDIT. The 1.2.1 build 72 works fine with the 30D..Cheers
