Director Of Photography

    hey,
    i' m new to this thing so can anyone please tell me what a director of photography is exactly? Is it the camera-man in a movie? Or something else? I mean what exactly does s/he do?

    Also, what must one study so to become one? (director of photography)

    Ive done a little bit of research on director's of photography...and the basic idea is that the movie set is their canvas..

    They decide what angle the cameras come in..how many cameras to take to a shoot...the basic lighting...they make sure everything lines up in the movie...for instance...if there is a close up on someones face with overcast skies in the background..then the camera zooms out and it is a clear sunny day...it wont add up...

    director of photography basically takes care of the details that no one really notices but would know if they werent there...

    At least that is my take...
