Does night sky pics need a better camera?

To capture the night skies and maybe the daylight clouds, does the camera have to be extra better? I'm a beginner in photography but something tells me that the camera would have to be even more high quality for scenes such as night skies and daylight clouds and such?
 
Define extra better? Most modern point-n-shoots will give good shot as they have settings specifically for twilight shots and the like, but, naturally, features may vary. Heck, there's a thread here with very nice camera phone shots!

Most are day shots, but it does show you don't need 'extra better' for nice looking photos.

Mentioning your camera make and model may get some responses on how to do what you're looking for...
