On camera dead-on flash has blown out most of the color.

You can use flash... Just use it off camera or diffuse it. You could also go outside to take the pictures and use a faster shutter speed.

the black background and shadow on the side kills it, give the same effect with no flash , use window light in the morning to light the face... sit her on a stool next to the window... then do the same effect... night and day difference..
