So Lets say, you have been given the $20,000, that you have to spend on Lens. Lens only and can't save it for later either. Lets have the wish list of a lifetime!

OH WOW, well try to work it out with 20k.

Mine would be:

AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G IF-ED, AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR. and the holy trinity minus the 70-200.

Nikon 600mm f4 VR. Over 10k right there.

I'd personally get a full line up of F2.8 zooms from 14-200, all brand new. Then I'd get a 300 F2.8 VR and a 500mm F4 VR. If I had cash left over, I'd get a 105mm f2.8 VR Macro and a couple fast primes. I might even consider Canon to stretch that dollar a whole lot farther. At that level, you can save thousands on the super-tele primes. Even all the zooms are significantly cheaper for the most part.

you didnt factor in the fact that you need someone to carry all that stuff for you... so i would add (minimum wage/per month) X (the rest of your life in months)

me? Well I'd get a Canon 800mm L and a 300mm f2.8 IS L right off the bat with that sort of money. From there I would probably add in a MPE65mm macro and 24-105mm L IS f4.
Then I would have to see what was left in cash for anything else

A dream wish list with only $20k.....

The 600mm f/4 VR & 400mm f/2.8 VR would chew that up in a hurry ($10,300 & $8,500 @ B&H), and that's just getting started.

Hehehe well being more realistic I would get the 50mm f/1.4 14-24 24-70 70-200 f/2.8 200-400 f/4 10.5mm f/2.8 and 105mm macro

And those are cheap compared to this used lens.

I don't have any real hope of ever having the chance at a Nikon Ai-P 1200 -1700 mm f/5.6-8, but it's still on my wish list. (only 15 ever got made over a 10 year period)
