I don't like the first one, but interesting attempt.
I do like the second one though. Very nice.
You did a great job of capturing all the subtle shades... like at the duck's temple, and the texture of the feathers.

And do you say a $200 lens? What lens did you use for this shot?
it's a male wood duck..the lens is a 70-300 Nikon lens
First one: sepia and posterized?
I'm a big fan of the second. I would crop a bit off the left and bottom but keep the same proportions. Nice job with the colors and texture

i have the same lens, 70-300 ED.. cost me 500 Canadian new., i think that was before tax., it is a good lens though.
