Dyamic range in a portrait

So I've had my D300 for a few months now, but have just now figured out how good of a dynamic range this sensor has. I've heard about it but haven't seen it myself til today.

I took this picture of my GF the last time I was home. I overexposed the crap out of this and was messing around with it in PS. Started playing with curves and quite literally saved this photo. I am amazed at the detail that remains even when highlight are blown to hell.
