yeah i get that its marketing but come on. shes acting like a twelve year old taking myspace pictures.

*cringe*

I think it is effective and cute as hell. I get that you do not like Myspace photos but they are selling an image and a feeling. Keep in mind that advertising is all out war. One thing for sure is that Cannon paid through the nose for this ad.

In contrast here is a Nikon ad. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIQjhgYEKbg[/ame]. And yes Nikon owners are that cool.

Were you expecting something a bit more upscale?

I think the Avril commercials are effective given the young market they are targeting. More so than the one I linked... but it could be a different time/market... since it is an old commercial.

Eh.. no different than the Nikon ads with Ashton Kutcher...

Whoa! I did not even know that Leica advertised. That is a very cool, but brief spot.

Interesting side note: I know I have made it as a photographer when I buy a Leica.

Eh.. anybody can buy a Leica as long as they've got enough money.. don't get me wrong, I want one myself :D but you don't have to "make it" as a photogapher to own one, heck, you don't even have to be a photographer.

Ugh...can you camera makers cut the crap with the sick, cutesy advertising and get to the stuff that really matters?

These ads make me want to strap C4 to myself and walk into their marketing department for the betterment of mankind.

BTW, I'm Canadian, and I apologize for Lavigne.

Its the photographer not the camera... but hey... I'll play along! :)

Leica does really need to advertise more.... at least circulate something online.

That is kind of a myth, but I will play along. Leica knows their position in the market. Advertising is the least of their worries.

That is correct. None the less.. I have dreamed of Leica since day 1.

In contrast here is Leica's vid on the new S series. And yes; it is all about the camera not the photographer.

Poll after poll and opinion after opinion among Leica shooters... do you know what is considered the best camera Leica ever made?

The M3 from the 1954-66s. Yup.. that's right... more highly regarded than the M4, M5, MP , M6, M6TTL, M7 and yes.. the M8. The M2 comes closely behind it because it incorporates the popular 35mm framelines.

Guess what? An M3 or M2 with a single lens isn't out of this world expensive... CLA is reasonable.. not to mention these mechanical wonders go years and years with reliable service. If you really want a Leica, save up and go get one. Its expensive but people here don't seem to mind spending the cash for Canon L lenses that are just as expensive.

Now the question to ask is... do you really want a Leica or just seduced by the high price panache?

I am a firm believer its the photographer not the camera.

I never see camera commercials on TV. The only one I remember ever seeing was a Nikon commercial, can't remember the details though...

I am fully seduced by the high price panache. I think the S2 is a $X,000 dollar camera. In association with Phase One we are talking about a professionals dream. I have been a Nikon shooter my whole life. After this much dedication I deserve nothing but the best. Leica offers it and one day I will afford it. Afford it in this case means having $X,000 dollars to throw around.

Holga, Nikon, Cannon and View camera owners can hold on to their dream, but I am over it. A Leica will be mine in the not too distant future.

More accurately... the S2 is a $XX,000 dollar camera. You were missing a digit.

but hey... a big thumbs up to knowing and being honest with thyself. I really do hope you get your dream camera.
