ever wonder why washington still looks old?

(not intended for critique...just sharing something you may find interesting) if you appreciate architecture, you'll appreciate this concept. with the exception of federal office buildings and a few others, a lot of what you still see in dc has been demolished except for the facades.

here, you see elaborate steel framing that will support a facade until new construction is tied in:

They are doing this to one of the old hotel on Fort Laudable beach. The front of the new hotel will only be four stores. But the back haft will be 15 or 20. It may be cheating little, but is cool and sometime only way to save the look of a neighborhood

they do the same thing here, in warsaw - i think they do it here, because of a very restrictive 'preservation rules/laws' - part of the original walls must stay - but for the renovation companies its cheaper to build the new building than a conserve the old one...so they are leaving the facade - and build a new one inside-:)...looks scary though, he he - great pics as always jonmikal!-:)
 
the first one is nice...i dont really think the sky fits there though...
