just wanted everyone to know - i bot peterson book on exposure from amazon and it has really helpted me a ton - one question i havent seen answered - when you turn on flash does flash supercede settings on manual settngs on camera

I may be wrong (and frequently am...) but what I have read/discovered is that on my Canon XT/XTi that it reads you manual settings and uses the flash for fill. It does something more drastic in shutter and aperture mode, so I almost always use manual. Had a very hard time understanding flash so if some with more experience wants to chime in and correct/confirm, PLEASE feel free...

That depends on your particular camera AND how you've configured it. Generally, the flash has priority but that's not always the case.
