external flash?

I'm on a really really tight budget, but I need some sort of external flash for my d60. Something that will help indoors and in low-light settings outside. Any ideas? Would a softbox diffuser help?

I have several of these

There are others that are cheaper:

Bower - SFD35N Digital Flash for Nikon i-TTL - SFD35N - B&H

You can use this one in iTTL mode, since Nikon makes it, but it's not a powerful as the Vivitar speedlight I linked you to:
