Direct flash tends to flatten objects, casts hard shadows, and generally does not produce flattering images. Diffuse or bounce it.

I agree with White, a diffuser is a great way to go! depends what kinda of flash you have. I often use my diffuser for my pop up flash. It works great for the times you don't have you other flash or just don't have time to put it on!

yea right now its just the useless popup flash, an enternal and a diffuser is on my long list of things to get
