Regular CLEAR or UV?

UVs are pretty much clear.
Yeah I caught the statement kundalini , on the never using one but, made their images soft. Sounds more like they are mouthing what they read elsewhere on forums.

Clear, or UV doesn't really matter. Especially with Digital, since there is a filter on the sensor already that blocks as much non-visible light as possible.

Hoya S-HMC or B+W MC/MRC are probably the ones to be looking at. Don't wanna add flair or colouration that a crappy filter brings with it.

A close friend was shooting moto-cross and took a rock the size of a golf ball in the center of the lens. Replaced the filter and that's it, no other damage.
