First Camera Question

Hey guys,
I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and its definitely something I would like to become more then a hobby. I took a photography class a few years ago and have been doing alot of research and learning. Im at the step where I would like to buy a SLR and I have no idea which direction I should go.
I would prefer to go with canon because I have lenses already from my film rebel and a friend will let me use some of his lenses when I need them.

My question is should I go with something like a rebel xti or go for the canon 40D?

Pro's & Con's would be amazing,
hell any information would be great.
and like I said I would like to to become a serious hobby or more as I gain experience so one of my worries about getting an xti would be upgrading within 6 months to a year for something better.

if you can afford a 40d
DEFINATELY buy one over the XTi, it has alot more feature wise and you wont want upgrading for quite a long time!

as for pro;s and cons

-Faster FPS
-Stronger built body
-Top LCD
-Live View
-faster focusing

Its bigger and heavier whether thats a pro or con is for you to decide!
