Hello, I am a new to photography and also new to site. Here is a for my photography class. Any tips would be very helpful. Thanks

Well, for starters, welcome to the forum!


It's nice to see a fellow newbie to the art. You'll learn quick- most do.


Now as for your photo- it's biggest problem that sticks out at me right away is NEGATIVE SPACE. Others call it empty space. It's not neccessarily bad to have negative space- many pictures can be successful with large amounts of it. But in this particular shot, you could easily crop it and it would be a stronger face.

Also, while it seems your setup is random, you should still try to look for line direction. Diagonal lines are the most powerful and dynamic to use in a still life - look for those in any still life setup you do.

Keep working at it, and don't be afraid to reshoot.
 
Hi and Welcome. Nice clean shot. I don't mind the empty space but I do think this photo needs either some color or some more contrast. Not really sure. JMO
