This is from the first batch of shots i tried with my new studio lighting setup. I was trying for low-key lighting, but I think this may be too dark. There is still some detail in the guitar, but not sure if I should have upped the flash output a little more. Please c&c. I really want to get this figured out. Thanks!

the aim is just off a bit, perhaps...depending on what your final output desired is.

You could still use a reflector to lift the other side of his face and a kicker/hairlight to separate him from the background.

If you only have the one strobe, use more reflectors. ;)

Actually, I have 4 strobes, plus an SB800. But I wasn't using all of them in this shot. I have a big fear of overexposure and I guess I erred too far on the other end of the scale. I do have 2 sets of 5-in-1 reflectors (long story). The key was bounced off an eclipse umbrella and the fill was a softbox. As you can see, I have all the necessary toys, just trying to learn how to play with them :)
