Flash Problem

I own a d40. it has no warranty, just stating so i dont get that answer. my flash button doesnt work so i have to almost pop it open with my finger. even when its closed the flash will still fire in manual mode, and i cant turn it off through the options there is some damage already inside the body from it firing while being closed. this problem is pretty annoying, so my question is, is there an easy way to fix this? and if anyone has had this problem and know about how much it would cost to fix, abit strapped for cash at the moment

Welcome to the forum.

One of my cameras has a similar problem were the flash won't pop up when I press the button. The camera tries three times then goes to an error code. I can get it to open if I press on the side of it while the camera is trying to release it.

I haven't run into this problem much at all, because I don't ever, EVER! use the built in flash. :er:

I'm sure that a Nikon service centre could fix it for you, but I have no idea how much that would cost.
