There are automatic flashes out there which can be put into slave mode which will allow them to be triggered by the on-camera flash. However, your camera will need significant exposure alteration as the extra flash will wash out the picture. This may be tricky and annoying to set up.

When using multiple flashes, it's best to use a hand-held light meter that can handle flashes. The normal ones just do ambient light. There are some wireless flashes that interact with the camera for automatic exposure, but this isn't the norm.
