Flash Question

I recently got a sync cord to fire my flash off camera (Shooting with a 580EX mk 1 with a Canon 40D camera). The sync cord has a hotshoe adaptor for the flash, because the 580EX doesn't have a sync port (unlike the Mk II).

However, I've found that I can't get high speed sync flash or second curtain flash when shooting with the sync cord, even when I set these options of the flash body. Am I missing something, or can this just not be done?

Nope, can't be done. A standard sync chord carries over a flash trigger signal, that is all. No data. No iTTL. No FP Sync, and No Rear Curtain.

The last one may beg the question why, but I would take a guess that the camera can not tell how long the flash will fire,and as such can't time the rearcurtain sync correctly.

Anyway to get a long cable that keeps those functions intact?

A TTL sync chord *may*, but they rarely come in long varieties.
