Flash recommendations needed for a Cannon Rebel 2000?

I have a Cannon Rebel 2000 EOS, and my flash died. I had purchased a Quantaray QAF 6600, but that was just what the camera store had in stock that worked with my camera. Don't really have a clue what is the best flash for me.

Where I normally use a flash is for indoor photography. The family gathering kind of thing... I normally don't use a flash in any other shots that I take. Normally like to use natural daylight.

Any and all advice is welcomed!!
