Hey,

I just got the internet hooked up to my clunky old computer at home. Now I can check out this forum day and night.

Does anyone know of any good free virus protection software? Or am I going to have to shell out some cash?

I use Avast. I have had no problems at all since installing it. It's free for home use and has automatic updates.

AVG is very light on resources. which is great for an old computer/

Unless you love tweaking Explorer, use firefox browser which may be one the best ways to protect your computer.

Firewall is primo important .Zone Alarm works for me.

I use adaware and spybot search and destroy also, beware of clones that will do more harm than good.

good news is they are all free and have stood the test of time.

My computer is extremly well protected and the only thing I paid for is a router $75.00 Canadian. No need to spend money.
