I've got my eye on a Fuji SLR 9.0 S9100 DIGITL CAMERA, 9mpx with a 10.7x wide angle zoom (28x300mm). It's going for $430 at Amazon and seems like a sweet deal. I'd love to go Cannon but current finances are holding me back.

Looking for input on this camera and how it compares to a Cannon.

The camera you are looking at is not an SLR, but an SLR-Style camera.
I used a fuji SLR-Style camera for 18 months and I found its controls easy to understand, but I'd not go back to it from my SLR. I'd be slightly concerned with so many pixels on a smaller sensor, but it might be okay. If someone who knows better posts about this then I'd take what they say more seriously. If you really need the camera just now, shop around for similar cameras in your current price range. If not, go for an SLR, but you may have to save up a bit extra.

Save up and buy an SLR. Leagues ahead of a point and shoot.
