FUJI HS 20 Low light

I am an avid fan of my HS 20 but does anyone have any tricks to mitigate the low light performance.

It`s because of the small sensor is only 1/2", the camera has EXR mode so instead of taking a 16mb photo it takes an 8mb one and this improves the low light a little bit, but the only way to get a good low light photo is to use a tripod and use a long exposure.
