There is only ONE place in Tulsa that carries off camera shoe cords, and their Canon one is $90(vs $66 on Amazon) but they carry a generic version for $45. I would just get the one off amazon, or B&H but I really need it by Saturday..

Anyone ever use a generic shoe cord?

If you really need it, then I'd say go for it. Just give it a try and make sure it works, before you leave the store.

These things (even the Canon ones) are notorious for breaking at the worst times. The weak spot is usually the shoe that holds the flash, since that is the part that has to carry the stress of the flash unit when it's moving around etc.

The other thing to consider is that not all aftermarket hot shoe cords support E-TTL.

If it's a replacement for the Canon Off Shoe Cord II (or III) then it should support E-TTL. (5 pin connection).

Ok. I will make sure to check for that when I go.
