So often these pics come out too muddled, but the decks, the desk, the cables are quite steady, the lights above are fantastic, leaving the DJ only with the motion, as it should be!

    Nice capture.

Great shot. My brother is a DJ, but I have never been brave enough to bring my camera to his gigs. Now I'm inspired to give it a try. The scene may have to be pretty particular. The turntable lighting is similar, but his effect lights are about 3 feet in front of him. I might be able to get him to acomadate me. Help

Lights were mostly above him in this shot. They didn't have too much extravagent lighting close to the dj in this case. How much influence does your brother have over set up? maybe they could make some space in front of him for you. For me it took about 4 or 5 shots to catch the right amount of motion out of him. ( I even have one where he left after I hit the start for the timer! DOH) One thing I wish I did was record film and shutter speed/aperature for each shot. That way its easy to see what went wrong with any shots that are overexposed etc.

Its also neat to get shots from behind him onto the croud. I took a couple of those but haven't uploaded them yet. Depending on the djs set up there might be lots of space without too much lighting back behind him.

He sets the lights himself. I think the shooting into the crowd idea may be best. I will talk to him.
