GIMP question

My photoshop 7 has been crashing on startup recently and I am not sure if I will be able to get it to work . I cannot afford the 500+ price tag on Photoshop and recently read about GIMP. The main things I like about photoshop are the ability to do selective coloring, extractions, and most importantly patch over parts of my photos that may have been effectied by dust on my sensor. Can GIMP do these tasks?

I haven't messed with it too much but Gimp should be able to handle all the functions you are looking for. It's a free download, so what can it hurt to load it and see if it works for you? I downloaded it the other day just to see what it was all about. I haven't done anything with it yet, though.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. If anyone out there has used GIMP and can give me a review of it vs photoshop I would appreciate it. I am distraught that my photoshop is not working, I spend all this time figuring it out and now I have to re-learn a new program.. Bogus!
