although if given the choice between the sigma and the nikon the VR of the nikon would probably sway me to it.

I had considered the VR, but after reading a few online reviews, the VR is less effective the closer you get to 1:1.......

Why spend the extra $$ on this when the VR feature is least effective at the focal range I would want to use the most.

thanks for the info on the macro lenses....I'm feeling a 150mm.....might rent a macro first see how it fits...I'm sure i'll be addicted in a heartbeat though.
