I just bought a new Nikkor 55-200 VR lens, so I had to try it out today. Not really a macro, but I was able to get close enough to this little guy (girl?). I just set the manual focus as close as it would go and moved the camera until it was sharp. Shutter speed was 1/1000, but the VR probably still helped given that I was at 200mm.

looks good, what's the minimum focus distance on that thing? I don't think it has focus scales.

From the instruction sheet specs: "1.1m. (3.6 ft.) at all zoom settings."

You're right. No focus scales on the lens.
