Although I think a critter called a Great Blue Heron should be in color, I still really like this.

Such fidelity! Such Detail! Such a range of tone!

The above attributes might be more commonly seen in film photography, but the conversion is perfect.
 
I was a filmer long before digital was invented...I think once it's in your blood, it stays there forever. Thanks for the nomination. It was an image begging to be B&W.
 
Great shot, one I probably wouldn't have even tried in B&W, but it sure worked nicely. How close were you to get that much intricate detail?
 
I was about 12 feet from him. He had his eye intently on a fisherman who was about to clean his catch and gave me no mind at all..until I hit 11' then he scooted himself around a bend where I couldn't have gotten this shot.
 
agree with Hunter58, wow to the texture and without colour I am drawn to look at the detail, nice
