I absolutely love the 70-200 F/2.8L. I walked outside to a shining moon and thought I would take a shot. Handheld, 100% crop.

Pretty crisp for a handheld, I can't take any pics at night, even with IS on, so the tripod is always with me..
 
Thanks, I was impressed as well for being handheld. I should have used a tripod, just to see how clean it could be.

I always turned the IS off at night on my IS lenses.
 
I bet the 24mm you have works just fine at night though!
 
Your shutter speed was 1/640. Lol, It's bound to not have any motion blur.
 
Thats what the light meter said! Although I the iso was at 400 I could have made it with iso 100 as well I guess
 
Lol I couldnt imagine trying to get pics of the night sky in NYC. I get irritated when my neighbor leaves his sodium light on next door all night when I want to shoot!
