Have a D3000 and need a new Shoe Mount, Suggestions?

I recently bought a cheap Bower external shoe mount flash from Adorama.com, and it worked good for about a week. And now it flashes once and wont flash again until I shut off, and turn it back on. Regardless, I need to purchase a new one. I will be shooting a Military Homecoming session in several weeks which will be around 2am so it be completely dark, and absolutely need a new flash that wont fail me on such a crucial moment! And suggestions that wont break my bank? I cant be spending $300 for a new flash...
