used the same lens for zoom and macro?

I stumbled upon this concept and just googled it, and it sounds pretty cool. I'll be reading more about it, but I WAS JUST WONDERING WHO'S DONE IT AND HOW'D IT GO. COMMENTS? SUGGESTIONS?

i tried with a cheap 70-300 zoom lens. wasn't happy at all, but maybe my tele zoom was just too poor from the beginning.

could not get the right crispy sharpness for macro which i was looking for.

I've used a zoom lens and reversed a 50mm prime lens onto is...that got me plenty of magnification.

Take note that a lot of lenses say 'macro' but technically they are not capable of the 1:1 reproduction ration that is true macro.
