Actually a snowy's natural setting is sitting in a field. There is even a bird book that states that they never perch in trees. lol

Ive been shooting snowies for the last 5 winters and I have hundreds of pictures of them in trees. This was the first snowy I photographed, 5 years ago today

I know. They do land in trees here but really their habitat is a tundra.
It's funny how some books can be so wrong.
