HDR

Do you have to do some kind of editing to the images that you are using before running them through an HDR program, or it as simple as clicking a button? My attempt came out terribly... I used CS2 & Photomatix and both gave me similar results. :grumpy:

If anyone is willing to help me with this I would be happy to post the 3 images to see what can be done.

I'll try it. Post the original three unedited.

Thanks a bunch abraxas. I don't know if it matters, but the images are night shots. I have attached 4 links to the unedited images (straight from the camera, no resizing or anything), but the first image (IMG_2574.jpg) was shot at a different aperature than the other 3 - so I doubt that you can use it. Maybe it's just that my photography is lacking and that's why I can't get a proper HDR image. Thank you and good luck!

I used the first three. The fourth seemed to have a bit of a bump and may have been slightly out of align.

In photomatix I reduced the luminosity because the sky went real noisy. I made a few other adjustments, but nothing that seemed to make a difference.

I'm learning when I do the tone mapping, that it looks completely different from what I see in cs2 when I pull it in.

In cs2 I adjusted the levels a bit and curves to taste. I applied a sharpeing filter to the reduced size.

I'm including the full size fresh out of photomatix so you can adjust the pp the way you want.

Just for grins;

Here are the little-tiny versions of the originals:

The HDR seems to assemble the best of all three (IMO). Changing the aperture rather than the shutter speed didn't seem to matter. As I mentioned, other than adjusting to get rid of haloing (not in yours) I'm finding photomatix needs very little in tone-mapping- but maybe that isn't true for every case.

wholly smoke abraxas.... this is awsome! thank you very much. I'll have to work on this cuz I clearly have no idea as to what I am doing with HDR. At least now I see that it can be done with my very own images. I really appreciate what you have done.

You're very welcome. Have fun!

:)

Edu Lopes, thanks so much for the link to the tutorial... now things that abraxas did make more sense to me.

U can use photoshop without needing or using a photomatrix, right?

Matt: This place looks REALLY peaceful... a good place to bring the wife on a date.

At the same time, it's sort of sad and forbidden. An idyllic scene marked, "Please do not enter," the sign ever so politely asking, while the fence is wide open and the sunlight inviting.

That is one of my favorite places to be. The Do Not Enter sign is there to prevent people from trampling the sensitive dunes. You can walk through areas of that though. It's right on the shores of lake Erie in northeast Ohio.
