I am looking at Gitzo carbon fiber tripods - GT2531, GT2541 and the GT2541EX. These are just the tripod legs, no head. Can anybody explain to me why the maximum height of the carbon fiber tripods are around 5 feet? I believe this max height is with the column fully extended. I am a tall person at 6 feet 3 inches. Will using these tripods give me pain in the back from arching over to use the tripod? I would like to take these tripods hiking. The only tripod I seen that has a height over 6 feet is the Slik product but they are not carbon fiber.

I believe there are a few over 5 feet.

Go to their website and click on Tripod Configurator. Very helpful in figuring out the models that meet your needs.

oops.. I just realized that the one I pointed out is a system tripod. Not sure why their selection is limited for tripods over 5 foot in carbon.. hmm

Thanks for your help. That's my problem, their tripods are just not tall enough.

    What's even more amazing:

The aluminum version (A-358 EX) weighs only 1.1 lbs more, at a savings of $312 ($18.75 an ounce) or so dollars.

Gitzo do taller CF tripods as do Benro...

A lot of carbon fiber tripods tend to be short as they are most commonly used as 'hiking tripods' and need to be closed down as compact as possible.
