And a question-not sure where to post it! I have been looking at the amazing photography on this site. Holy cow! I was wondering if there is a way to know if it's been digitally altered or is just the photograph as taken?

most if not all, have been altered in some way. Film included. Just like you "alter" photos in a dark room, you can expect people to alter them in photoshop.
