i was using a cheap 2x teleconverter so i think thats the problem....how can i prevent it

What camera and what teleconverter were you using for that picture?
Also what do you mean my distortion? I don't see any. All is see is a ghosty god halo effect from long handheld exposure. It actually looks kinda nice but odd.
Those effects look like lens aberrations mostly. What camera and lens do you have?
Stopping down (ie closing the aperture) will diminish the aberrations, but it is unlikely that they will be eliminated.
There may be a better teleconverter available for you camera.
