I just got a copy of Photoshop CS2 and when I download my RAW images onto the computer and try and open them with CS2, CS2 says that it cannot open because,

"could not complete your request because it is the wrong type of document"

Right now CS2 is not recognizing my Serial number, so could it possibly be limiting what I can work on? Or is this just another issue that I am screwing up somewhere. This is a real pain and its been driving me nuts. The camera is a D200 and its set to RAW, not fine normal or basic, but just RAW.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Chris

CS2 not recognizing your serial number is a definite problem... You should probably try to call Adobe about that.

I'm not really sure what that error message means though

Eh well I've gotta get around that some other way probably. I can get a keygen or a serial number offline somewhere. I just read somewhere that Nikon's RAW files need to be converted to Tiff's... I'm lost, very very lost.

Are tiffs the same as RAW files and can they be edited the same way?

No. RAW files are proprietary to the manufacturer and specific camera. Your raw definitions in Bridge/CS2 might not have the data for your particular camera and you may need an update for CS2/Bridge to recognize your D200.

How would I get an update?

Under the Help menu on CS2 is a choice for 'program update' ... click that to download current updates (assuming you have a legal copy). If that doesn't work, not sure what to do next short of calling Adobe.

.... oooh ... just noticed the part where it says CS2 is not recognizing your SN ... that might be a problem when you try to get updates ... is your copy legal?

That would be a no.

its a legal version of CS2 but downloaded in a semi illegal fashion :)

I am going to get a new copy and try it again.

Could be a legal boxed copy, lost the disc or it was scratched or damaged, and so he downloaded via torrent but used the legal serial and activation numbers. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

If it was a legal boxed copy, he wouldn't have said he was going to try a keygen or serial number offline.

If it was a legal boxed copy, and he lost the disc or it was damaged or scratched, he could have called Adobe. They do offer replacements.

If it was a legal boxed copy, then it should have still recognized his serial number, even if he used it to activate a trial version off of Adobe's website (which is what he should have done, if it was a legal boxed copy and he really couldn't wait on a replacement CD in the mail).

I'm not saying it's *not* possible, I'm just not saying that's it really likely either.

wow this became a hot debate for the night... I figured out what the problem was so I'll leave it at that. Adobe had an update that I hadn't downloaded.

lets stay on topic and talk to the OP not debate what the OP meant by what he said :p
