Hey - what is this on my image?

    looks like glare from the sun or a reflection of something.

    do you have a lens hood? might solve that issue

    I do not have a lens hood.. do they fit on all lenses?

    yeah you've got yourself some lens glare there, a hood would probably stop it.

    and no they do not fit on all lenses, they are filter size specific

    Most but not all. The artifact is known as lens flare.

    What brand and size lens were you using?

    That is for sure lens flare. The octogonal shape you see is the shape of your aperture opening. A lens hood is a good thing to have to prevent this.

    I was going to say time/space portal, but it could be glare, too.

    I was using a cannon zoom lens.. efs 18-55 mm. has autofocus & stabilizer.. and a clear filter (more to protect it from scratches / dirt dust.)

    Edit: It is size 58 mm.

    im thinking the glare is due to the filter. try taking the filter off and shoot again

    yeah check the filter and also check that the lens and filter don't have oil/dirt/finger prints on them it can enhance the glare sometimes.
