Finland is beautiful and I want to see it for myself.
Now Esa-Pekka Salonen I'm familiar with but what about contemporary bands? Have heard one or two though can't remember their names and have liked what I heard.

Feels bad, but I can't really help you with contemporary bands.

I don't like finnish music myself, so I don't know too much about those bands.
Sorry.

Only band I could recommend is Nightwish. But they play more like opera metal, symphonic black metal, and goth metal. They are pretty well known around the Europe so maybe you are already familiar with them.
