Hi,

I'm new to this forum and I'm glad I found you.

I'm taking photo reference material for paintings, but I often get distortions when I photograph people and animals. That makes the photo either impossible to use for reference or it has to be significantly changed in the painting.

For example, if I take a photograph of someone, his or her shoulder may be huge or an individual's hands may be much larger than they should be.

Does anyone here have any suggestions as to how to avoid these kinds of distortions?

I know I'm not supposed to use a wide angle for portrait shots, but I don't know what else to do.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
