hi, new guy

hi everyone, im jim from the n.w. suburbs of chicago and just joined the forum tonight. i recently bought a "real" camera less than two weeks ago and have ALOT to learn. i graduated from point-and-shooting a nikon coolpic 4300 for the past three years and got a new canon rebel 400D (body only). im shooting with a 17-85mm IS lens i got on Ebay... got a pretty good deal... me thinks. anyway, i should be getting my new 100mm macro lens tomorrow :bouncy: and a bigger CF card, 4GB. my shooting preferences are everything!

first post, first question: the cheapie 50mm canon lens for $80. is this worth getting or is it a no brainer and get it because i've read nothing but good things about it. thanks in advance!
