Hi.

I was wondering if anyone had some good hints for someone just starting out.

I have a Canon Rebel and I would like to get a little more serious with my hobby. I obviously take pictures all the time :) But I have never taken a course photography. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a book or user guide for photography? Or in your experience is it better to just get out and "do"?

Also are there any particular books that people find helpful?

Thanks,

You'll likely get a dozen or more suggestions to read Peterson's "Understanding Exposure" and while an excellent treatise, I would suggest your best bet is to start by joining a local camera club and perhaps some evening classes at your area adult education facility. This will have the benefit of being an inexpensive way to learn a great deal more about the basics in a much more one-on-one environment.
