How do people perform or post a "100% crop" of an image?
what kind of information is this providing people also?

actual pixel display. The size depends on your resolution. But if the image is 300ppi lets say then you will get 300ppi on your screen zoomed in

View the image full sized and then crop down to the area you want people to check out. When you save the image, don't reduce the size, save it full sized. Then post the full sized cropped image to the thread.

Most times when you view an image on-line it's been resized down to a size that the forum allows. This resizing changes the way the image looks. When you see a 100% crop you see the image in it's original form and can see what's really going in with the image...you can see how much detail was actually captured by the sensor.

Try it with your own images. View it so that the whole image is visible and then view it at 100%.
