I'm going to be taking some family photos at a get together this weekend, so I took some test shots today. I need some help learning how to soften such harsh sunlight. I know I can tweak them afterwards, but I'd like to learn how to get the best shot possible with my camera. Any help is appreciated.

The top is okay I guess, bur the second one is more like the conditions I will be taking the photos under.

Wow! Thanks so much! I don't know how I've managed to miss this site, there's tons of great stuff here.
