I have searched around but I can't really find an answer. Would a hoya R72 filter work with a nikon d40? And if it can, does anyone know where I could buy one on the internet?

Yes it would. The worst worst worst camera for IR is the D200, and I still pull good pictures out of it. It won't work as good as a converted camera, it definitely won't work as good as a film camera. But you will still get a neat effect regardless.

Ebay it. That's where I got mine.
